Type 3 MOT
Reduced-fines aggregate for permeable construction. Same shape as Type 1 but with the dust screened out so water drains through.
Description
Our Type 3 MOT is an open-graded sub-base aggregate produced for permeable construction, drainage systems, road formation, and heavy-duty groundwork applications where water permeability is essential. Unlike standard Type 1 MOT, Type 3 contains reduced fines content, which allows water to pass more freely through the aggregate structure while still delivering strong compaction and load-bearing performance. Contractors regularly use Type 3 beneath permeable block paving, porous surfacing systems, soakaways, car parks, access roads, and equestrian installations where drainage compliance and surface stability must work together. We supply this material loose for commercial, domestic, and infrastructure groundwork projects across Manchester and the surrounding North West.
The open-graded aggregate structure helps prevent water build-up beneath paved surfaces by improving drainage movement through the sub-base layer. This makes Type 3 particularly suitable for SuDS-compliant installations and permeable paving systems where standard MOT aggregates with higher fines content may restrict water flow. Groundworkers also use Type 3 beneath driveways, roads, stable yards, and hardstanding areas where long-term surface stability and drainage performance are equally important. The larger clean stone grading compacts into a durable structural layer while maintaining void space throughout the aggregate to support controlled water dispersion beneath the finished surface.
